As one of JC Metalworks’ principal supply partners, we were approached to find a solution to reduce welding fumes. With regular customers being designated an account manager, to assist with product support and stock management, Technical Sales Manager Steve Irwin, surveyed JC's premises with a view to recommending a solution.
On this particular project, we worked closely with one of our bespoke LEV installation partners to design a system that would suit JC Metalworks, a leading expert in sheet metal product manufacture, unique requirements. With a large facility, busy workforce and inherent use of forklifts for material handling, we knew this needed a somewhat complex solution. We needed to design a bespoke fume extraction system for their twelve welding bays and increase working efficiency at the same time.
Plymovent's range of KUA extraction arms, offer reach of between 2 to 4 metres and have flexible hood positioning. Our bespoke design joined the KUA extraction arms to metal ducting, enabling the removal of the hazardous fumes to atmosphere and improving residual air. The KUA is a self supporting arm providing the operator ease of movement and total flexibility in reaching the fume at source, regardless of proximity to the welding bay wall. The ducting design and sizing was also of paramount importance, to ensure even balance and consistent air flow across all extraction points.
The process did not end there, JC previously had mobile welding curtains around their workshop, but overtime the condition had worsened. With their busy workforce frequently using forklifts which can cause tears around the base of the curtain, we needed something that would be sustainable and of high quality.
A smart installation of strip welding curtains was put in place, limiting future tears around the base from forklifts. The curtain strip can be replaced one at a time, reducing future costs. The new curtain system also increased welding bay floor space and eliminated trip hazards. JC chose the HIGH-VIS amber weld curtains, which protect from welding arc whilst providing a bright and smart overall affect, complimenting JC's professional image. The curtaining installation made a massive visual improvement to the workshop floor and the safety of the team.
'Foster designed, supplied and installed a bespoke extraction system for our 12 welding bays. The service from start to finish was excellent and we're extremely happy with the installation'
Foster Industrial has good welding industry knowledge & technical know-how. We have a team of field sales & service engineers, who can advise on welding process & welding fume extraction solutions.
We offer a free Welding Fume Extraction Survey for all clients and can test fume levels & recommend, supply & install the necessary kit.
Coupled to this, we can also conduct free Welding Efficiency Process Surveys looking at each welding process in turn, we'll discuss, recommend & demonstrate welding consumables, equipment or abrasives with a view to increasing productivity. We assess your current kit, in terms of suitability, safety & effectiveness, with a view to improving the welding process end to end.
