Make sure your hose is in date & fully serviceable, it is imperative that your gas welding hose is kept in tip top condition. The BCGA Code of Practice CP7 states that all gas welding hoses must be inspected for safety, condition & operability annually. In line with this regulation, gas welding regulators and flashback arrestors must also be changed every five years, whilst gas welding torches must be inspected for any damage.
If you use a poor quality or degraded welding hose to carry out gas welding or brazing operations, there is a chance that it could crack, catch fire or cause an accident. The entire length of the hose should be undamaged at all times.
This is why the technical staff at Foster Industrial assess the quality of every single gas welding hose set sent out to customers & carry out annual CP7 gas equipment checks for clients. Gas welding hose is date stamped for inspection purposes and sets are fitted with hose check valves on one end to ensure gas flows in one direction and prevents back flow. A nut is fitted on the other end, for connection to gas equipment. Re-usable O clips should not be used to repair or shorten hose.
In the UK and USA, hoses must be carefully colour coded before they can be sold on the commercial market. This is so that hot work operatives can safely and quickly determine which hose line they need to alter, shut down, flood, or disassemble to fix a fault.
According to British Standard BS5120 & European standard EN559, blue is used to indicate an oxygen hose, red to indicate an acetylene or hydrogen line, and orange to indicate a propane line. The colour black is used when the hose is designed to work with an inert gas like nitrogen or argon.
There are two things to consider, the bore diameter of the hose & the fittings.
Lightweight hoses are 6mm diameter and would typically have 1/4 fittings suitable for model O or lightweight gas torches. 8mm diameter & more heavy weight site hose 10mm diameter sets have 3/8 fittings suitable for Type 5 gas torches and NM250 cutters.
We stock a wide range of high quality gas welding hose sets, in a variety of different lengths and thickness. For instance, a 5 metre 6mm diameter oxy/acetylene hose set is perfect for our Model O lead welding kit, whilst a 10mm diameter set of pipes would be ideal for heavy duty cutting and is available in lengths up to 20 metres.
Argon hose for MIG & TIG welding is also available to purchase by the metre & in 2 metre ready fitted sets with 3/8 fittings.
