MORE ABOUT GAS WELDING & CUTTING NOZZLES

Choose from our Model O, light weight and heavy duty swaged nozzles for gas welding, as well as ANM and PNM cutting nozzles for oxy/acetylene (ANM) & oxy/propane(PNM) operations.

We can guide you through how to choose the right gas welding nozzle & match up the nozzle sizes with the thickness of the metal you are cutting, in a quick reference guide.

Choosing the Correct Gas Welding Nozzle

Whilst straight nozzles tend to be bigger on the inside, they do not provide a great degree of seam access. In fact, if you are looking to increase control over the weld joint, the most suitable choice of welding nozzle is a bottleneck variant – they have an interior diameter of around 1.5 inches, so they offer increased access to the weld seam.

The long and short taper variants are also widely used, but longer nozzles usually have reduced room on their interiors and this can increase the build-up of spatter during hot work. If you want to make sure that you pick the ideal gas welding nozzle for your operation, you need to invest in one which not only provides good access but also enables the gas to move freely and safeguard against intrusions.

Choosing the right Gas Welding Nozzle in four Steps

1. Thickness of the metal. How thick the metal you want to cut is a crucial consideration as the centre hole of the nozzle is appropriately sized to deliver the correct amount of oxygen for the metal thickness you are working with.

2. Application. Different nozzles are designed for specific applications. Depending on whether you are cutting, brazing, gouging, or heating, you will need a different welding nozzle.

3. Seat Type. Check with your torch model & manufacture as to which seat type you need. The seat type is determined specifically by the brand and model number. Choosing the incorrect seat type can cause damage to your equipment or can result in gas leakage.

4. Fuel Gas. Different types of gases are used in gas welding and each one requires a different nozzle to deliver the oxygen and gas correctly. Be sure to check which kind of gas you are using for the job and choose the appropriate nozzle.

Matching the correct oxy/fuel nozzle size to the thickness of metal you are cutting. It's ANM for oxy/acetylene & PNM for Oxy/propane:

ANM/PNM 1/16: 3 to 6mm metal

ANM/PNM 3/64: 5 to 12mm metal

ANM/PNM 1/16: 10 to 75mm metal

ANM/PNM 5/64: 70 to 100mm metal

ANM/PNM 3/32: 90 to 150mm metal

ANM/PNM 1/8: 190 to 300mm metal
